BASIC: ISO Category IV Vibration Analyst

Category IV Vibration Analysts are individuals who understand the theory of mechanical vibrations, advanced vibration analysis techniques and signal analysis. They shall be qualified to direct condition monitoring programs, perform major diagnostic efforts, and perform and recommend corrective actions and design modifications.

  • Number of Questions on Exam - 63
  • Time Allowed to Complete Exam - 5 hours
  • Minimum Required Experience - 60 months
  • Minimum Required Training Hours - Category III + 64 hours
  • Diploma Technical or Engineering degree is also highly recommended

CAPABILITIES OF CERTIFIED VIBRATION ANALYSTS:

Category IV Certified Vibration Analysts shall have in-depth knowledge, skills, and experience in the diagnosis and correction of machine faults using basic mechanical vibration theory, signal analysis, multi-channel spectral analysis, rotor and gas pulsation dynamics, and isolation and damping techniques. They shall be able to apply parameter identification techniques to determine natural frequencies, mode shapes, damping, and operating deflection shapes; to conduct two plane balancing; to recommend machine mounting corrective actions including design modifications, resilient mounting, and foundation re-design; and to interpret published codes and standards.

Category IV - Candidate Profile:

  • You have at least five years of vibration analysis experience
  • You want to be the chief diagnostic analyst or consultant
  • You want to understand all of the advanced measurement and analysis options
  • You want to understand fluid-film bearings, flexible rotors, their modeling, their testing and their potential fault conditions
  • You want to be able to diagnose and correct a wide range of conditions
  • You want to be able to balance rigid and flexible rotors using a range of techniques You are seeking to become certified to international standards (ISO-18436) by an accredited certification body

Certification Prerequisite:

Prior experience is not required to attend training, but you must have 60 months of verifiable experience and Category III certification by an accredited certification body to qualify for Category IV exam and certification.

Outcome:

You will come away from this course qualified to lead condition monitoring teams and will have a deep understanding of machine dynamics and failure modes.
